Your Education Matters!
About
From a very young age Ricky's father Melvin "Hamburger" Gilliam had him and his twin brother Micky learning the electrical and HVAC trade. They were apart of the family business Gilliam's Electric, located in Windsor NC. It was the first black owned electrical business in their hometown. From there Ricky's passion for the trade blossomed.
He went on to attend North Carolina Agriculture and Technical University. While attending college he received an offer to be apart of the Weyerhaeuser Industry Family where lumber and sawdust became a part of his blood. Even with his career change, the trade always seemed to pull him back.
Ricky also worked with Watson electric where he helped to wire the prison Bertie Correctional Institution in Bertie County NC. In his spare time he would continue his first love of the trade by wiring barns, installing fans, etc.
Service
This website is dedicated to Ricky Mel Gilliam. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, son, and grandfather. In his honor the Ricky Gilliam Scholarship Foundation will raise money each year to award students going into trade schools. Each year we look to provide financial support in trade work, by awarding deserving recipients.
Ricky was very dedicated to his hometown and community, and this is our way of giving back!
